Image
British writer Jesse Armstrong is currently soaking up all of the awards and acclaim as the creator of HBO's Succession, which many already consider amongst the best TV series of all time. But it's far from Armstrong's only achievement. While Succession has won several Emmys for best drama series, one of the main things that fans love about it, is how funny it is. This show is now best remembered for a sketch in which Mitchell plays a WWII Nazi and asks; "are we the baddies?" During this same era (2005-2012), Armstro...

"The Wolf of Wall Street," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is one of the greatest of all modern movies, and it runs three hours. Photograph from Moviestore Collection Ltd / Alamy Cultural Comment In Praise of the Long Movie In a year in which a three-hour-plus film, "Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles," was named the best film of all time in the decennial Sight and Sound poll, and another three-hour movie, "Avatar: The Way of Water," became the third-biggest box-office hit ever, it's hard to imagine that anyone in the art or the business of movies is put off by long running times.
