Hollywood stars owe Netflix a big thank-you.

The streaming service is bolstering pay packages for the most famous actors in the business at a time when studios are getting downright stingy about writing generous checks. Ryan Reynolds, for instance, is getting $27 million to star in "Six Underground," a Michael Bay film about a billionaire-financed vigilante squad, and Denzel Washington asked for $30 million to topline an action film for the company before opting to pass in favor of other projects. An insider disputes that Washington was ever offered a specific salary. Will Smith will likely score $35 million from Netflix in exchange for reprising his role as a wisecracking cop in "Bright 2."

On the face of it, those figures are larger than what more traditional studios are willing to shell out for stars. Smith and Martin Lawrence once commanded $20 million a picture, but both actors are shaving their asking prices to get "Bad Boys for Life" off the ground. Likewise, Tom Cruise may have earned $20 million in his mid-'90s and early aughts heyday, but to reprise his iconic role as Maverick, the rule-bending aviator in "Top Gun: Maverick," he's pulling in a relatively modest $12 million to $14 million. Even the big franchises don't pay what they once did.

Netflix salaries come with one big caveat. The stars don't share in any upside. Even if customers love a movie, stream it ad nauseam and encourage their friends to check it out, actors' take-home pay stays the same. On a studio movie such as the recent horror hit "Us," Lupita Nyong'o may only get a little more than scale, but her haul will be several million dollars by the time the movie wraps its theatrical and home entertainment runs, thanks to a generous back-end deal.

For most projects, actors' contracts stipulate that they will receive a percentage of the profits. In rare cases, a major star will get what is called first-dollar gross, which is a portion of the studio revenues before a picture is in the black. Because Netflix movies do not have wide theatrical distribution and the company receives most of its revenues from subscriptions, not from home entertainment sales and licensing, a similar form of profit sharing isn't feasible. Netflix's salaries tend to be larger as a reflection of that reality.

Sometimes it's the stars themselves who are willing to work for less, not just the studios dictating that they take a haircut. Ansel Elgort commands $5 million on fare that's more commercial, but he's making less than that for a chance to work with Steven Spielberg on "West Side Story." And DiCaprio and Brad Pitt took roughly half what they usually command, or $10 million apiece, to pair up for Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." In those cases, working with some of the most talented filmmakers in the business is reward enough.

Though the fat paychecks of yesteryear may be few and far between, some actors still are able to ask for and receive hefty compensation packages or have seen their salaries increase as their stars have ascended. Dwayne Johnson, one of the few remaining stars whose name alone is enough to guarantee a solid opening weekend for a film, routinely makes $20 million or more on his big action movies, and Robert Downey Jr. has leveraged his Iron Man clout into a massive $20 million haul for "The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle," a fantasy film he hopes will inspire a franchise. And while Gal Gadot may have been paid a pittance to originate the role of Wonder Woman in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," she'll get a heroic $10 million to don her character's signature cuffs in "Wonder Woman 1984." These movies turned Gadot into a major star, and she's finally being paid accordingly. Other actors, such as Margot Robbie of "Birds of Prey," get richer deals because they don't only appear in their movies — they also produce them.

Iconic ‘Mean Girls’ Quotes That Are ‘So Fetch’ - Us Weekly

Posted: 30 Apr 2019 11:00 AM PDT

They're Mean Girls quotes, duh! A lot has changed in the world since the iconic movie was released in April 2004, but the one-liners from the comedy remain as hilarious as ever.

In February 2018, nearly 14 years after the flick's release, actress Lindsay Lohan, who starred as Cady Heron, reenacted some of the most memorable scenes from the beloved movie for W magazine. After she recited the line where a salesperson advised Regina George (Rachel McAdams) to purchase a larger-sized dress at Sears, the Parent Trap star expressed her disgust.

"That's so mean. Can we say something other than Sears? What's funnier?" she asked before someone told her it was an exact quote from the film. "Oh. Damn you, Tina Fey!" (Fey wrote the flick's screenplay and starred as math teacher Ms. Norbury.)

Although the Saturday Night Live alum told Entertainment Tonight in February 2018 that the cast's salary requirements are "all too high" to create a sequel, the flick is still making its mark on the entertainment industry. In April 2018, a musical adaptation of the rom-com premiered on Broadway. Seven months later, Ariana Grande reenacted the big-screen hit in her record-breaking video for "Thank U, Next."

In the video, the former Scream Queens actress portrayed the leader of the mean girls while her former Victorious costar Elizabeth Gillies and her best friends Alexa Luria and Courtney Chipolone rounded out the rest of The Plastics. The "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" singer wrote messages to her exes, including Big Sean and Pete Davidson, in her version of Regina's burn book and the foursome even recreated the Plastics' iconic "Jingle Bell Rock" performance.

Actor Jonathan Bennett, who played Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls, reprised his role for the music video. Kris Jenner, for her part, did an incredible portrayal of Amy Poehler's character, Mrs. George.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star sparked an internet phenomenon when she uttered the words, "Thank you, next, bitch!" at the end of the mini-movie, but Mean Girls quotes have been slaying on social media for more than a decade. To relive the best, most hilarious one-liners from the film, check out the video above!

Everything to Know About Lili Reinhart's New Movie "Hustlers" - Seventeen.com

Posted: 30 Apr 2019 01:34 PM PDT

Get ready to throw out all of the squad goals you thought you had because none compare to the cast of the new movie Hustlers. Hustlers is an upcoming film about a group of strippers who scam and steal from their Wall Street clients. If that sounds movie-worthy, then this next part will blow your mind. It's based on a true story. The movie was inspired by a 2015 article in New York Magazine titled "The Hustlers at Scores," which described the women as Robin-hood like figures who stole from their clients during the financial crisis of the late 2000s. But wait, there's more. Who's in it? Just a bunch of Hollywood it-girls including Lili Reinhart, Jennifer Lopez, Keke Palmer, Constance Wu, Cardi B and the latest person to join the crew– singer, rapper, songwriter Lizzo. By now, you're probably ready to empty out your money on movie tickets, so here's everything you need to know about the new movie Hustlers.

Are there any scenes out already?

While we haven't gotten any official scenes from the movie, not even a trailer, we have received a peek into some behind-the-scenes moments and even a few photos from set.

Here are the girls hanging out on a roof they were filming on in NYC.

Lili also shared some behind-the scenes pics of her brushing up on her pole-dancing skills. We already knew she got a little practice for her pole-dancing sesh in the "House of the Devil" episode of Riverdale. Her character, Betty, gets on stage and performs a strip tease for the crowd celebrating FP's retirement.

And here's a pic from filming of Lili and the other ladies escorting a man out. I think he's about to get scammed, but he gets to hang out with the girl squad of my dreams so tbh I don't feel that bad.

As filming continues, we'll keep our eyes peeled for more photos from set!

When is the release date?

You can't watch this from the comfort of your couch, but tbh it's probably better to catch the ladies on the big screen anyways and we finally have a release date! Jennifer Lopez, who plays Ramona, the boss lady of the group revealed the release date on Instagram. We'll have to wait until September 13, but that gives us enough time to mentally prepare for what's about to become our new favorite movie.

What do we know about the cast and their roles?

So far we know that J. Lo's playing the head of the stripper crew. In an interview with The Elvin Duran Zoo Morning Show, she said her role has been a bit challenging."It's a nightmare thinking about being up there. I'm exposing myself, let's say, in a way, emotionally and physically more than I've ever done in a movie," she said. "And I've done love scenes and this and that, whatever, but not like I was up there like that."

According to Cosmopolitan, we also know that Julia Stiles will be playing Jessica Pressler, the author of the New York Magazine article that covers the dancers' stories and Madeline Brewer will be playing one of the exotic dancers.

What are people saying?

They're so ready for this movie!

A Family Affair! The UglyDolls Premiere Brings Out Celebrities and All Their Adorable Kids - POPSUGAR

Posted: 28 Apr 2019 03:56 PM PDT

On April 27, stars of the upcoming film UglyDolls descended on the red (or orange, I suppose) carpet for the movie's Los Angeles premiere. Kelly Clarkson — who lends her voice to the main character and the film's soundtrack — was in attendance with husband Brandon Blackstock and their four children: Savannah, 17, Seth, 12, River, 4, and Remington, 3. The actress wore a gorgeous hot pink voluminous gown as an ode to her lovable character, Moxy.

Her costar Blake Shelton also attended the event with girlfriend Gwen Stefani. They were joined by Gwen's sons Kingston, 12, Zuma, 10 and Apollo, 5, whom she shares with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. Both of the families posed for a few adorable snapshots (which we're hoping will be framed and hung somewhere in their homes).

Thanks to the movie's all-star cast, a handful of other big-name celebrities — including Janelle Monáe, Nick Jonas, Pitbull, and Emma Roberts — made their way to the colorful get-together and posed with life-size characters from the movie. Ahead, view all the fun photos from the big premiere!
