Memes, Houston celebrities react to Astros losing the World Series in devastating fashion - Houston Chronicle

It just wasn't meant to be.

After Game 7 started with promise but ended in heartbreak, the Washington Nationals, not the Houston Astros, are your 2019 World Series champions.

The devastating loss, which saw the Astros squander a two-run lead at home, left the Houston faithful rightfully upset. Some were angry, while others just couldn't believe the team's historic season ended without a title to show for it.

Local celebrities, such as Rockets star James Harden, stepped in to offer their condolences, and a few fans have already moved on to next year.

Click through the gallery above to see how Astros fans and Houston celebs reacted to the heartbreaking Game 7 loss on social media.

The Astros' inability to bring baserunners home in the postseason ultimately proved fatal. In total, Houston batters left 10 on base and scored only two runs in Game 7, despite an extremely shaky day from Nationals ace Max Scherzer.

Astros starter Zack Greinke impressed in his 6 1/3 innings of work, but a pair of Washington homers in the seventh quickly turned the 2-1 lead Greinke exited with into a 3-2 deficit.

In the ensuing innings, the Nationals continued to score, while the Astros failed to muster much of anything at the plate, ultimately securing D.C.'s first World Series title ever.

It was a disappointing finish to a campaign that saw the Astros end the regular season with a franchise-record 107 wins and the best record in baseball.

Unfortunately, homefield advantage proved to mean very little when it really mattered. This World Series was the first in history to go all seven games without the home team winning.

But look at the bright side: At least we'll always have 2017.
