While many people dream of renovating their homes, Becca Tobin and her husband Zach Martin didn't exactly have a choice. Best known for her role on Glee, the actress is currently on the television version of her popular podcast LadyGang, along with Keltie Knight (who also knows what it's like to renovate a home) and Jac Vanek. Over two years ago, they purchased a 1200 square foot two bedroom/two bathroom house in the Laurel Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles. "We were drawn to the space because the house had so much charm! Los Angeles is filled with a lot new construction that feels really sterile, so this 1930's gem felt super special. Laurel Canyon is also a really special neighborhood with a very cool bohemian vibe because of its rich music history and we loved that!" she explained.

Along with their dog Orly, the couple was happily living in their beautiful home until the old plumbing system backed up and flooded the entire lower level during a LadyGang shoot. While this was a stressful situation to say the very least, Tobin looked at what happened as an opportunity to create her ideal space. "We wanted to achieve something that felt unique to us. We also wanted to design in a way that would accentuate all the original charm of the house and not distract from that."

One of the largest construction projects was installing new floors. "As soon as we realized that we had to take up all the flooring on the first level," she said, "I called our friend Cory McCrummen who helped us design and told him that I have to have the pink and white Cle tile floors in the entryway!"

Tobin also worked with Hutch to re-decorate. A major advantage of working with them was that she would be able to see how everything would look before making a purchase. "As far as the furniture and accessories go, we really trusted Aisling, our decorator from Hutch, to choose a lot of those. We loved her style and knew we were in good hands."

Another advantage of using Hutch was that Aisling helped the couple find that happy medium of their own unique styles. "The biggest challenge we faced was finding ways to compromise on certain pieces of furniture and art! My husband and I don't always share the exact same taste, but we eventually figured it out."

For the guest bedroom, they chose furniture and accessories from several retailers including West ElmTarget and Brooklinen. The room has even become Orly's favorite spot in the house.

As someone who revealed she "lusts over organization," Tobin was thrilled to have California Closets build new closets for that room as well as design storage for the laundry room.

Adjacent to the guest bedroom is the dining area where Aisling helped Tobin decide on pieces from West Elm and Anthropologie.

Although the flood did not affect the master bedroom, Tobin wanted Hutch's touch up there as well—with furnishings from WayfairInterior Define and Noir Furniture.

One of the most interesting elements of the project was choosing new artwork all of which was sourced from Society6. "We chose these specific Society6 pieces because we wanted calming pieces with neutral tones that didn't take over the small spaces in the house. I also loved how unique they are."

While the renovation wasn't easy, she has great advice for other homeowners in the same situation. "Try and not kill your spouse! I obviously wish the renovation had been our choice, but it was nice to be able to give this almost hundred-year-old home some of our personal touches! I walk into my house every day and I kind of fall in love with it over and over again."
