Mena Massoud Fuels Star Wars Casting Rumors With Ezra Fan Art - Screen Rant

Mena Massoud further fueled speculation that he is set to portray Star Wars: Rebels character Ezra Bridger by sharing a piece of fan art on Instagram. The actor has been a popular choice among fans for the beloved Star Wars character for quite some time. It is speculated the character may appear in a future live-action series on Disney+.

Born and raised on Lothal, Ezra Bridger made his debut in Star Wars: Rebels, voiced by Taylor Gray. The child of vocal opponents of the Empire, Ephraim and Mira Bridger, Ezra was orphaned at a young age and left to fend for himself. Ezra joins the crew of the Ghost, not only learning how to rebel against the Empire but also in the ways of the Jedi under Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.) Though he sacrificed himself to save his world from Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), Ezra is alive somewhere in the galaxy. With fellow Rebels favorite Sabine Wren being cast and set to appear in the upcoming Ahsoka series, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, many Star Wars fans speculate who may play the young Jedi in his live-action debut, with Massoud being a popular choice among fans. Though the actor has previously addressed the speculation, a recent post on social media has prompted further discussions on whether he is set to wield Ezra's saber on-screen.

Taking to his personal Instagram account, Massoud shared a piece of fan art that depicts him as Bridger. Through the "Stories" feature on the platform, Massoud shared a piece by RenderDriver and GuilleGFX of the actor dressed as Ezra in his later season outfit on a fan-made poster for the Ahsoka series. In his Stories post, Massoud thanked them for "dreaming alongside me," tagging and crediting the artists. Check out Massoud's post below:

Massoud previously explained posts that he made where he quoted the young Jedi that originally fueled fan speculation about him being cast in a Star Wars story. When addressing the post in an interview, Massoud explained that his original post was made in order to manifest the role after hearing rumors about the character being brought into live-action. Massoud elaborated that modern social media offered the opportunity to express interest in playing the character outside of more traditional Hollywood systems, and that he felt he had the experience to handle the role. Massoud's explanation is similar to how Rosario Dawson was cast as Ahsoka Tano for The Mandalorian, who had been fan-cast as the Jedi before her debut, leading to producers behind the series taking inspiration from social media posts.

With the series reportedly entering production in April, many Star Wars fans are paying close attention to details about the Ahsoka Disney+ series. Ezra is a key player in the series' narrative, having been last seen alongside Thrawn, who is speculated to be an overarching antagonist across future Mandalorian-related Star Wars projects. While nothing has been confirmed yet, many anticipate the possible live-action debut of Ezra Bridger, and Massoud is a popular and ideal choice to play the Jedi upon his return to the galaxy far, far away.
