Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Martin Short and Eugene Levy Enjoy Group Dinner Together in Santa Monica - PEOPLE

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson enjoyed a fun night out with friends in Santa Monica on Tuesday.

The couple, who wed in 1988, were photographed smiling next to Martin Short, plus Eugene Levy and his wife Deborah Divine outside a restaurant. Wilson, 67, was arm-in-arm with Hanks, 67, who posed close with Levy, 77, and Short, 73.

When Short and his Only Murders in the Building costar Steve Martin were on Jimmy Kimmel Live back in 2018, the actor joked about having "colonoscopy parties" with Hanks and friends every other year.

"We're very excited. We go to Steve's house around 5 p.m. the night before [a colonoscopy appointment]. We call it Colonoscopy Eve in Canada," said Short. "And it's catered. There's Jell-O, you know, there's not much you can [eat]; you have to purge all day. And then we toast."

In December 2022, Wilson told PEOPLE about pulling back on her work life when her kids were young and supporting Hanks' career.

"I slowed down my work because I really wanted to be the mom that was there when they got home, drove the carpool and did all those things," she said at the time. "Tom was also working a lot, so we would travel with him. If both of us were working and not home, my kids would have been affected. I wouldn't call slowing down my career a sacrifice, I would call it a choice."

Wilson added, "Tom and I have always been supportive of each other and what we do. I remember doing press junkets back in the day, and interviewers would say to me, 'Gosh, it must be so difficult to be with someone so famous.' I would think, 'Why are they saying that?' Then I realized that the question was more about them and how they would feel in that situation than me."

Back in 2019, Hanks told PEOPLE he considers himself part of a team, not an individual.

"I like being part of an ensemble. Anybody can make it a miserable day by being cranky or self-centered, by thinking it's all about them instead of all about the whole," he said.
